EXODUS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Exodus Recovery provides a weekly
medical education program to improve knowledge and positively impact delivery of
care to our clients. Case presentations, evidence based practices (EBP’s),
dissemination of current psychiatric literature and medical journals all
contribute to an invigorating and dynamic program with the goal of achieving
better outcomes for Exodus clients. The content of activities is organized
around current education needs in behavioral health, medical specialties,
disease modalities, clinical practices and research findings related to mental
health. Educational topics cover addictive medicine, psychiatry,
psychopharmacology and psychotherapy methodologies. The information and
techniques presented to participants fosters improvement and quality in mental
health care which promotes a balanced view of therapeutic options.
Exodus strongly
believes in the value of mentorship, education and training. To advance this
objective, Exodus established a student intern training program several years
ago in Los Angeles County which has since expanded into San Diego County. The
interns involved in this program train under and are supervised by licensed
Exodus staff and work with clients in our Los Angeles and San Diego county
outpatient programs as well as our Urgent Care and Walk in Assessment Centers.
Currently, Exodus has Master’s level, MFT trainees affiliated with Antioch
University, Pepperdine University, University of Phoenix and St. Mary’s
University. Exodus also has Doctoral student interns from CSPP Alliant
University. In addition, Exodus trains nursing students from Santa Monica
College, interns from the Mental Health America Jump Start program and Peer
Counselors from the Westside Independent Living program. In San Diego County,
currently working in our Walk In Assessment Centers we have nursing students
from Cal State University San Marcos and MSW students from Cal State Long
Beach.
Our
trainees/interns provide psychosocial assessments, individual therapy, case
management and linkage, and co-lead groups under the close supervision and
training of the clinician/therapist and the Program Director. Interns have the
opportunity to provide services in field based settings as well as at program
sites and will learn invaluable skills related to community mental health. Under
the supervision of Dr. William Wirshing, our Director of Medical Education and
Research, and our Education Clinical Coordinator, we plan to continue and expand
our training programs.
